BEING WELL IS A JOURNEY
We all come from different walks of life. But, the paths we take and the steps we make connect us in heart, mind and spirit — in ourselves and with others.
Your well-being starts with you. With daily attention to your physical, mental and emotional states, “being well” is about finding and fine-tuning your best self.
As we each embark on our own life journey, we connect via shared experiences, heartfelt passions and personal stories.
Meet Christian Yang, Lindsay Jang, Alex Lam, Anisha Thai and Gianni Melwani. Sharing their thoughts and tales on what “Be You Be Well” means to them… We discover that embracing and enjoying your journey, with all the ups and downs, always leads to a path of being well.
AUTHENTIC BEGINNINGS
“Yoga will find you when the time is right,” says Alex Lam, a singer, actor and yoga instructor. His mother took him to his first mat practice at age 7 — and he hated it. “Then, when I was older and visited her at teacher training in L.A., I was totally blown away by the scene and vibe of seeing 300 people in one room doing yoga… The rest is history.”
For wellness entrepreneur and yoga instructor Gianni Melwani, a sports injury serendipitously steered him to a new life path. “Yoga started as a physical practice, then developed into a mental and spiritual journey. It helped me become more fearless and comfortable with who I am.”
Lindsay Jang, the hospitality entrepreneur and trainer, first discovered yoga as a teen, to relieve the high-impact tension of snowboarding. Over the years, her wellness journey led her to create her own unique mat-based workout programme. “Feeling healthy, strong and ultimately happy is the fundamental core of my well-being.”
Tuning in to what you love, and following that passion, can catapult you to your happy place. “I truly have fun making food and truly hope that people can experience the level of love I have for food,” says Christian Yang, a celebrity chef and powerlifter. “My job satisfaction is 100%. I am very lucky.”
As an artist and dancer, Anisha Thai has always chosen to chase her dreams and do what she loves (which now includes singing). “I used to watch artists like Beyonce, Britney Spears and Michael Jackson, and be amazed at how they controlled their body so effortlessly, with strong presence and confidence,” she says. “There is a healthy, virtuous circle between body, mind and spirit. It’s so important to listen to your body, take care of it, love it.”
CHOOSE TO BE WELL
Making your choices, for your best self, can help guide your wellness path. Coupled with a positive mindset and sharing your happiness with others, to “Be You Be Well” can be effortless.
Gianni says: “Getting your foundation right is important for physical, mental and social well-being. When effort is put into key aspects of health, everything else happens automatically and effortlessly. Without your health intact, it’s impossible to enjoy and appreciate other parts of your life.”
For Lindsay, her daily choices are simple: “I make time every day to sweat, to give attention to all the people I love in my life, and to give myself the freedom to say no to things that don't contribute to my well-being.”
Whether on stage, on set or on a mat, Alex believes we all need to show up and be the best we can be. “Being well and well-being are often two things we can control,” he says. “If you are not up to par, at the end of the day, the only truly unhappy one is you.”
Positivity always wins. And good vibes always help. To instantly uplift her mood, Anisha turns to music. “I’ll listen to a song and free my mind, free my body. It’s therapeutic and stimulating at the same time.”
Christian adds: “Positive well-being holds the highest level of importance to my core being. I wish for everyone to be their own best friend.”
Be you.
Be well.
